Role description

As a Simulation Engineer you will be part of the Software development team in the Silk-FAW Software & Electronics unit.
The Simulation Engineer will be typically responsible for vehicle control systems simulations pertaining to several aspects of vehicle performance from the concept phase down to start of production. The role is one of the primary interfaces toward the Control Systems team to defining control systems key features and performance needed to reach the car performance targets. As a member of the simulation group you work to provide performance simulation analysis and to help with conceptual direction, developing design and early stage analysis.
Moreover, the role includes optimizing the vehicle control systems and measuring their overall performance on the virtual car, also developing the simulations tools and human-in-the-loop simulators.

  • Responsible for detailed analysis of vehicle simulation and including approval of results
  • Perform root cause analysis of issues detected in products released or under development, implement lessons learnt on subsequent products
  • Perform correlation activities to align the simulation models with physical test data
  • Optimizing testing methodology to allow testing team learnings to be fed back into the simulation environment
  • Supporting the testing and development activities by cross-analysing experimental and numerical results
  • Developing novel methodologies for the continuous improvement of the simulation tools and models
  • Analyze data, and report findings to the team, from DIL, vehicle simulator, and real-world testing
  • Contribute to the delivery of integrated co-simulation packages to enable virtual vehicle controls design, development, and validation
  • Contribute to the development of human-in-the-loop simulators, ensuring their relevance for all application sets and their alignment with the offline simulation toolset
  • Reviews progress of projects and provides frequent progress updates to direct manager
  • Travel, as necessary, to other development sites


  • Strong analytical skills and ability to process and infer conclusions from simulation data and communicate this with stakeholders
  • Ability to understand engineering direction and provide critical analysis accordingly
  • Be able to demonstrate an innovative and flexible approach to process development, problem solving and possess the ability to work through problems in a scientific and analytical way
  • Knowledge of virtual vehicle performance analysis and data analysis tools and correlation to car data
  • Understanding of vehicle control systems and performance optimization, including interaction with tyre optimization
  • Knowledge in Vehicle Dynamics principles and functions; Automatic Control theory; Adaptive controls; Advanced Driver Assistance Systems; Electric and Hybrid-Electric vehicles architectures and controls
  • Understanding of electric powertrain optimization and simulation using complex models and track data
  • Understanding of brake system physics and optimization including interaction with brake-by-wire and regenerative brake systems
  • Knowledge of Virtual prototyping / MIL / SIL / HIL
  • Knowledge of validation, verification, and testing process is a plus
  • Highly motivated individual able to use their initiative to resolve development impediments
  • Excellent analytical abilities and extensive amount of independent thinking are required
  • Experience managing key stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to work in a variety of client settings and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in performance simulation of Vehicle Dynamic, Vehicle models, Powertrain, dynamic models with electric, electro-mechanical and hydraulic actuators
  • Experience in design of experiments, technical knowledge of vehicle dynamics principles, chassis systems, electric powertrains, battery systems
  • Experience in simulating controls systems using Model Based Design and Matlab/Simulink including co-simulation techniques (Matlab Simulink, FMI, etc)
  • Experience with data logging systems, telemetry analysis tools, real-time platform simulations
  • Experience with DIL simulators, rigs and dyno simulations is a plus
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: VI-CarRealtime, CarSim, Simscape, Dymola, AMESim, is a plus
  • Experience in creating code in one or more programming or scripting languages is a plus
  • MS/BS Degree in Engineering with emphasis in Mechanical, Mechatronic or similar, Automotive Engineering is a plus
